Allie graduated from MN School of Business as a Certified Veterinary Technician in 2009. She joined Southview in 2013 and brought her knowledge and love of exotics as well as inventory control with her. Allie enjoys working at Southview because you just never know what’s going to walk through the door. There is never a dull moment and it is a constant learning experience. She is especially interested in critical care/emergencies. Allie has a cat, a Ball Python and a freshwater aquarium at home. She enjoys relaxing with family and friends in her spare time.

Brittany joined Southview Animal Hospital in September 2013. She received her AAS in Veterinary Technology from attending Ridgewater College. Brittany loves all the hands on work and learning new and interesting cases. She has three dogs named Penny, Cassie, and Cody, a cat named Mascato, Hammy the hamster, a sugar glider named Gizmo, and a chinchilla named Freckles. Outside of work she loves to hike, camp, dance, and spend time with her family and friends.

Grace Carleton

Grace joined Southview in May 2016 as a Veterinary Assistant. She has a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Iowa State University, and previously spent time working in a small animal clinic and at the ISU horse barns. Her favorite thing about working at SAH is the people; everyone is usually very cheerful and helpful, and all the staff has a good sense of humor. She also really enjoys the wide variety of animals seen at Southview because it gives her a chance to expand her animal knowledge and handling skills. Her favorite aspect of working as a Veterinary Assistant is being able to participate in helping an animal get well and go home to its family. Grace and her significant other, Trevor, live with their tabby cat, Mika, and their Golden Retriever, Buddy. In her free time, Grace enjoys reading, playing guitar, practicing yoga, swimming, and spending time outdoors.

Jasmine is a veterinary student at the University of Minnesota with a special interest in avian and exotic medicine. Jasmine started working at Southview Animal Hospital in April of 2016. She enjoys working at Southview Animal Hospital because it treats exotics and performs emergency calls. She currently has a crazy cat named Tommy and an adorable Dutch bunny named Roger. In her spare time she likes to garden, camp and swim. Jasmine also fosters orphaned kittens.

Joan has been with Southview since May 1998 and her knowledge is an asset to every area of our practice. She loves the hands on work of being a CVT, favoring dentals and assisting in surgery. Joan enjoys this line of work because it is always challenging and interesting. She enjoys her co-workers because they work as a team. She loves to travel with family and enjoys learning about the area when visiting new places. Joan has an affinity for Persian cats and has two of them herself.

Lauren Carlin

In 2009 Lauren joined the Southview team after interning for 3 months. She graduated from Globe University as a Certified Veterinary Technician. She enjoys working with exotics; in fact that is what drew her to Southview Animal Hospital. She has an African Bull Frog named Kermit, a Betta fish named Ginsberg, a black and white cat named Koos and a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix named Kryptonite. She has a special place in her heart for the little guys like rats, and guinea pigs.

In her free time Lauren likes spending time with her family and friends and enjoys camping and live music.

Laurie Thelen

Laurie has been with Southview from the beginning of her career in 1986. She joined SAH after receiving her Associate Degree in Science and graduating from the Veterinary Technician Program at The Medical Institute of Minnesota (now Argosy University). She is an outstanding technician with exceptional skills in the lab and is especially gifted with birds and exotics. What Laurie enjoys most about our clients is that they love their pets. She went into the veterinary field to help sick pets. She believes her co-workers are the backbone of our clinic and are truly wonderful. Laurie is challenged when there is not an easy answer or quick fix to a medical condition. She has a husky mix named Jewel, kitty which is a long haired tabby and a White’s Tree Frog. In her spare time Laurie enjoys spending time with her family camping and hiking. She also plays the flute in a community band and likes to quilt.

Lindsay Knoll

Veterinary Assistant


Lindsay was born and raised in St. Paul, and although her family only had 1 cat growing up she has always loved animals. She moved to Bozeman, Montana for college and got her Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, and spent a couple years working for the government managing public lands and wildlife. In 2016, Lindsay did an internship at a wildlife hospital called CROW in Sanibel, Florida, she worked with sea turtles, raccoons, bald eagles, owls, and much more! Lindsay loves seeing all the species that come through the doors at Southview, and that we have veterinarians that are passionate about exotics. She enjoys working with owners and their pets, and helping anyway that she can. Lindsay is currently attending Argosy University to get her Associate’s degree in hopes of becoming a certified veterinary technician. Lindsay has a short hair tortoiseshell cat named Finley that she got while in Montana, she travels everywhere with Lindsay and has many “dog-like” tendencies such as drinking out of the toilet. She plans on getting more animals when she has more space, and more time after she is done with school.

Lori came to Southview Animal Hospital in 1997. She received her associate degree from the University of Minnesota. She then attended the Medical Institute of Minnesota to earn her Certified Veterinary Technician degree. She has great compassion for the animals she works with. Lori enjoys keeping owners informed of the latest updates in pet care. One of the things that Lori loves about working at Southview Animal Hospital is how well the staff works as a team. She is proud of the fact that Southview maintains the highest standard of care for our patients and clients. Along with her duties as a Certified Veterinary Technician, Lori also works with many of our medical vendors to ensure we are using the best possible products on the market. Lori and her family are the happy owners of a rescued cat and dog. In her time away from work she enjoys camping, hiking, boating and spending time with family and friends.

Mary Jo attended The Medical Institute of Minnesota (now Argosy University) and attained her Veterinary Technician Certificate. She has been a technician at Southview Animal Hospital longer than anyone. Mary Jo has a great sense of humor and loves working with animals. While she performs all tasks associated with being a CVT, her favorite task is assisting in surgical procedures. She is caring and efficient with clients, patients and staff. Mary Jo loves to travel, shop, walk her energetic dog and spend time with family and friends. She often brings treats to share with staff. Mary Jo and her family own an active Australian shepherd mix named Allie.

Maurice joined the Southview Animal Hospital Team 2001. He has a special love for all exotics, especially reptiles. Maurice does many of our house calls, especially when exotics such as birds or lizards are involved. Beak trims, nail clipping and wing trims, Maurice is there. Maurice is a very caring technician. In his time away from the clinic Maurice enjoys spending time with friends and family. He has reptiles and birds.

Rebecca Smith

Rebecca is originally from Rogers, Ohio. She attended Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology. Since then, Rebecca moved to Minnesota and she is enrolled in her third year of veterinary school at the University of Minnesota. There are many reasons why she loves working at Southview Animal Hospital. She likes that we see so many different kinds of animals and that our clients care deeply about their pets. Rebecca also enjoys working with a team of great technicians and doctors. One of her favorite aspects of her job at Southview is educating owners on preventative measures including vaccines and heartworm, flea/tick medication. Rebecca enjoys answering questions about these topics and many others. Currently she has three pets, two dogs (Rascal & Rex) and one cat (Rebel), but hopes to have a small hobby farm one day. Outside of work she enjoys hanging out with friends and doing outside activities. Rebecca enjoys hiking, camping, skiing and taking the dogs to the dog park.

Sarah’s interests in the clinic are handling reptiles, taking in new pet exams, feline medicine and taking x-rays. She has two dogs, Tracer a Boston Terrier, and Sydney a Springer Spaniel mix. She also has an orange tabby cat named Charlie. After work Sarah likes spending time with family especially her daughter. She also likes to watch hockey, go fishing, shooting skeet and play Texas holdem.

Shantelle joined Southview Animal Hospital in December, 2013. She has been a Veterinary Technician since 2011 and graduated from MSB/Globe University in 2013 as a Certified Veterinary Technician. Shantelle’s interests at work are emergency/critical care, surgical procedures, training new staff, and customer service. Shantelle lives in Cottage Grove with her husband and daughter. They have a Border Collie named Chase, and a Tennessee Walking Horse named Exclaim. In her free time, Shantelle loves being with her family, training Chase in agility, horseback riding, quilting, yoga, and spending time with friends.

At home, she has a cocker spaniel named Taffy, a bunny named Cedar, 2 turtles, a salamander, and several frogs. In her free time, she enjoys spending time in the great outdoors and cheering for Minnesota sports teams.
